Canton

County seat of Cherokee County, Canton is Georgia's fastest growing city and was named the fifth fastest growing city in the US with a population of just over 15,000 people.

Established in 1833, Canton was once famous for "Canton Denim," well known around the world for high-quality denim produced by "Canton Cotton Mills". Presently, Canton is enjoying the largest economic boom the city has ever seen.

Currently the city has several community development projects underway including new construction to revitalize the area. The Canton Theatre on historic Main Street brings a taste of color and class to the downtown business district. Streets in the downtown area have been renovated with brick sidewalks, lampposts and beautiful landscaping.

As the first phase on the Etowah River Greenway, Canton hosts Heritage Park, which is 30 acres of walking and biking trails and also features a natural amphitheater! A fine location for many city concerts and movies during the summer, Heritage Park offers free entertainment in a lovely and safe environment for its residents. Current plans for phase two of the Etowah River Greenway north of Heritage Park include the construction of nearly 60 acres allocated to fields for softball, baseball, tennis and soccer.

Canton has also entered into a partnership with the Metro Atlanta YMCA to construct a multi-million dollar community center on Waleska Street adjacent to Heritage Park. When it is completed the community center will offer an indoor swimming pool, gymnasium, wellness/aerobics center, childcare facilities and also be home to the Cherokee Sports Hall of Fame!
