Centuries ago, the area now known as Atlanta was home to the Cherokee and Creek Indians. In the midst of the War of 1812 the first English settlers ventured to the area, forming Fort Peachtree. Founded near the Chattahoochee River banks, it overlooked the Cherokee village of Standing Peachtree. In 1825, the Creek Nation relinquished their territory to the Georgian government. The Cherokee Nation occupied their lands until late 1835, when the Treaty of New Echota was drafted, forcing them to relocate further west.

For decades
Atlanta has been associated with many civil rights movements. Civil Rights leaders strived to have their visions noticed. Many dreamed of a new south, and a new Atlanta. Motivated for harmony, immense sacrifices were made to achieve the ultimate goal of peace.Because of these visionaries and their efforts, Atlanta has developed into a busied and contemporary city, even hosting the Summer Olympic Games in 1996.

During the last twenty years,
Atlanta has grown at a rapid pace. The residential population is substantially increasing, at nearly 420 thousand residents, the metropolitan population continues to grow. In the last ten years alone, Atlnta has experiences a nearly 40 percent increase, from 2.8 million to 4.2 million residents.  The downtown skyline shows this growth, with an ever-changing outline, containing skyscrapers built in Midtown, Buckhead, and the surrounding business districts (bordering on I-285).
With Hartsfield Atlanta International providing direct flights to Asia, Europe, and South America, the Atlanta metro area is conveniently reachable to more than one thousand global businesses that operate here. Over fifty countries have representation through trade offices, consulates, and chambers of commerce. Atlanta is also the headquarters for thirteen Fortune 500 companies.
